Introduction to LEGO Robotics(8+yr)(EV3 31313 Set) $595

The reason why we continue to use EV3 31313

The Introduction to LEGO Robotics class is to for students (age 8 and above) who have limited or no prior exposure to LEGO robotics but love to play with LEGO or build something. In this class, students will complete 11 fun projects with gradually increasing difficulty and complexity. Want to make a robot claw to lift a soda can? How about a Halloween doorbell? Do you know robot can dance and play baseball? In this class students and their robots will also be trained to become Jedi Masters. This class uses the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 31313 set because the new LEGO Robot Inventor set is not as versatile and might be too advanced for beginners.
Each project involves the construction of a LEGO robot with a step-by-step guide, normally done before class. In class, the emphasis is to have fun, learn about EV3 motors and sensors, experience with EV3’s drag-and-drop-based programing language, and expose to a few basics on problem solving. At the end of this class, students should be comfortable using EV3 motors and sensors and write simple EV3 programs themselves. A student need to bring to class an EV3 31313 set and a PC laptop (a Mac is ok if it has MacOS 10.13 or older). Chromebook is not suitable.

Intermediate LEGO Robitics(9+ yr) (EV3 31313 Set) $595

The Intermediate LEGO Robotics class is to for students (age 9 and above) who have taken the Introduction to LEGO robotics class or have good knowledge about EV3 programming. In this class, students will complete 7 fun projects that will deepen their understanding on engineering and programming. Students will build a robot that can draw sophisticated patterns on paper, make an analog clock that actually works, create a music-making robot, construct a Formula One race car and compete against classmates, and build an ant robot that looks like an ant and move like an ant.
Similar to the introduction class, the emphasis of this class is to have fun and learn something useful along the way. A series of tasks/mini-projects with increasing difficulty within each project are given. Students are guided to develop solutions to those tasks. Students can progress at their own pace to finish all or a subset of the tasks. Each project involves the construction of a LEGO robot with a step-by-step guide, normally done before class. A goal of this class is to introduce and reiterate the process of problem solving: understand a task in terms of the goal and parts/actions required, develop a logical solution to complete the task, and implement the logic using the EV3 programing language. At the end of this class, students should be comfortable developing sophisticated EV3 programs themselves. This class uses the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 31313 set. A student need to bring to class an EV3 31313 set and a PC laptop (a Mac is ok if it has MacOS 10.13 or older). Chromebook is not suitable.

The Advanced LEGO Robotics class is to for students (age 10 and above) who have taken the Intermediate LEGO robotics class or have good knowledge about EV3 programming. Similar to the intermediate class, students will work on 7 fun projects that will solidify their understanding on engineering and programming. Want to know how to use your smartphone to control a R2D2 robot? How about building an app to control a race car? One of the most popular projects is to create your own sumo robot according to international competition rules and compete against your classmates. For those with an eye on robotic competition, you will also learn to control your robot to navigate a maze all by itself.
Again, the emphasis of this class is to have fun and learn something useful along the way, with special focus on problem solving. A series of tasks/mini-projects with increasing difficulty within each project are given. Students are guided to develop solutions to those tasks. Students can progress at their own pace to finish all or a subset of the tasks. Each project involves the construction of a LEGO robot with a step-by-step guide, normally done before class.
